Combining and Relating Aristotelian Diagrams

چکیده

Combining and relating logical diagrams is a relatively new area of study in the community people who work on Aristotelian diagrams. Most attempts now have been ad hoc. In this paper I outline more systematic research program inspired by category-theoretic perspective. As concerns diagrams, will mainly focus Demey–Smessaert tradition.

Shape Heuristics in Aristotelian Diagrams

Aristotelian diagrams have a long and rich history in philosophical logic. Today, they are widely used in nearly all disciplines dealing with logical reasoning. Logical geometry is concerned with the theoretical study of these diagrams, from both a logical and a visual/geometrical perspective. In this paper, we argue that the concrete shape of Aristotelian diagrams can be of great heuristic val...

Relating Diagrams to Logic

Although logic is general enough to describe anything that can be implemented on a digital computer, the unreadability of predicate calculus makes it unpopular as a design language. Instead, many graphic notations have been developed, each for a narrow range of purposes. Conceptual graphs are a graphic system of logic that is as general as predicate calculus, but they are as readable as the spe...

Logical and Geometrical Distance in Polyhedral Aristotelian Diagrams in Knowledge Representation

Aristotelian diagrams visualize the logical relations among a finite set of objects. These 1 diagrams originated in philosophy, but recently they have also been used extensively in artificial 2 intelligence, in order to study (connections between) various knowledge representation formalisms. 3 In this paper we develop the idea that Aristotelian diagrams can be fruitfully studied as geometrical ...

Aristotelian constitutions

One of the chief problems about discussing any aspect of Aristotle's political thought, but especially his thinking about constitutions, is the apparent disorder of the Politics. The relatively loose and dialectical nature of the argument is certainly responsible for some of its unevenness: the repetitions, the omissions of promised discussions of particular topics, and the sudden turns, perhap...

Combining and Relating Control Effects and their Semantics

Combining local exceptions and first class continuations leads to programs with complex control flow, as well as the possibility of expressing powerful constructs such as resumable exceptions. We describe and compare games models for a programming language which includes these features, as well as higher-order references. They are obtained by contrasting methodologies: by annotating sequences o...
